Gomba Beats Buwekula in Airtel Masaza Cup Opener

The new season of the annual Buganda Airtel Masaza Cup started over the weekend at Kabulasoke Core PTC playground on Saturday.

The four times champions, also defending champions, Gomba started from where they ended last season with a 1 – 0 win over Buwekula.

The well attended teeth grinding Masaza Opener was officially inagurated by his majesty, the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. Other Buganda Kingdom officials that graced the match included the Prime minister, Charles Peter Mayiga, ministers, Clans and Masaza (counties) supreme leaders alongside the central government officials, Members of Parliament among others.

The lone goal in the game was scored by the Kampala Junior Team (KJT) forward, also the captain for Gomba, Nicholas Kabonge in just two minutes after the return of the game after half time.

“It was a great start although we did not play well to the expectations. I believe we shall improve as the tournament goes along,” the goal scorer excitedly revealed.

Gomba, currently coached by Ibrahim Kirya has won 2004, 2009, 2015, 2017 and now looking forward to lengthen their record championship title list to five this year (2018).
