From the draws, the remaining English representatives, Arsenal go up against Russian CSKA Moscow while La liga side Atletico Madrid will be playing Sporting Lisbon from Portugal.
Statistics
The Gunners who are steadily positioned in the sixth place of the EPL table booked their place in the last eight by defeating AC Milan, winning the first leg at San Siro 2 – 0 and the second leg 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium to seal a 5 – 1 aggregate victory.
Arsenal last reached a European quarter-final in 2010, when they lost to Barcelona in the Champions League but right now they look unlikely to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League, currently sitting 12 points behind fourth-spotted Liverpool.
Despite Arsenal having avoided Atletico as many of their fans wished, they have no warrant to be too happy too soon: Their record against CSKA has been poor as thay amount to one draw and one defeat.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid vs Sporting is an all-Iberian challenge since have played twice in Europe before, and drew both times.
Other Europa League Draws
In the other quarter-final ties, Bundesliga table second positioned RB Leipzig will be tackling French Lague 1 side, Marseille while Italian Serie A side, Lazio take on Red Bull Salzburg from Austria. Lazio have lost 100% of both their previous matches against Salzburg.
Leipzig and Maerseille’s clash is uncharted territory for them since they have never played each other before.
