Arsenal’s Takuma Asano lifts Japan to World Cup 2018

On Tuesday, Japan qualified for Russia World Cup 2018 after beating rivals Australia 2 – 0 in Saitama after stunning performances from  Yosuke Ideguchi and Englih side Arsenal Striker Takuma Asano.

Takuma Asano calm side footed goal from Yuto Nagatomo’s cross in the 41st minute and Yosuke Ideguchi’s angled shot that passed the outstretched arms of Australian goal keeper Ryan to claim his first goal with the national team lifted Japan to 20 points in Group B. Australia can still qualify if they clinch second place.

Asano joined Arsenal in January but will spend next season on loan at Stuttgart

Japan are four points ahead of Australia and Saudi Arabia who still have a chance to qualify from the 2nd place if they win their next games where Saudi Arabia will be hosting Japan for their final group game on September 5 while Australia face last place Thailand.
