It is no longer news to many that Pastor Augustine Yiga’s Kawaala based television station, ABS TV, was shut down by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) on Tuesday last week. There has been a long list of reasons from different sources on what might have led to the closure of the station but here is why UCC ordered for the disconnection of ABS TV.
Promotion of immorality
This might be the major reason and it all started last year after sighting several claims of invading people’s privacy through the ‘Kalondoozi’ programme by a one Hajjat Aisha, which used to expose the secret habits by couples like cheating, incest, cannibalism and in most cases, images that were not palatable for public viewing used to be broadcasted live. The TV Station was dragged to court and forced to scrap off the Kalondoozi program.
This was replaced by a program that created controversy in the media fraternity, ‘Agebweru’, a news segment in which the anchors allegedly practiced a lot of un professionalism like broadcasting interludes during which girls did catwalk, news anchors stripping live and change clothes before cameras.
Attacks from Fellow Pastors
Though seems minor, sources has it that Pr Yiga has also been under attack from fellow pastors accusing him of allegedly corrupting public morals through his ABS TV programs. The list of such pastors is endless but a good example can be Pastor Deo Semakula of Holy Healing Tower ministries church in Maganjo who always in day light accuses Yiga of allegedly snatching believers from his church and calling himself ‘Abizayo’ (fighting evil power by returning it to its origin using supernatural powers).
