The Black Pirates Rugby club are officially the champions of the 2017/2018 Nile Special Rugby League, breaking a 20-year-old jinx without winning the National League.
According to the Club Patron, George Mbalu, the club’s success came from the campaigns they made in Kenya from which they lifted a shield trophy in one of the events in the Masaku 7s tournament.
“Our Success comes from the rigorous campaigns in Kakamega 7s culminating in another shield trophy, friendlies in Nakuru and many others. It has been a one interesting, painful and fruitful journey for us” He said.
Though there was still a match to go, the Black Pirates were crowned the champions even with any result (be it a win or loss) from the Betway Kobs at Legends Rugby Club.
Rugby Uganda Cup
The Pirates are also the defending champions of the Rugby Uganda Cup, meaning they now have a double championship to their names.
Haruna Mohammed, Conrad Wanyama, Baron Kasozi, Desire Ayera, Didi Ruhweza, Timothy Kisiga, Emma Emanzi, Ivan Magomu and Nathan Bwambale are some of the young stars that led the Pirates to a double victory in the season.
