Breaking NUP President has been arrested per multiple reports.
Immediately after the airplane touched down at Entebbe International Airport, plainclothes security operatives swiftly apprehended Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, the President of the National Unity Platform (NUP).
The Uganda Police had issued strong warnings the previous day, asserting that they would not permit NUP supporters to welcome their leader back to Uganda, fearing it could lead to unrest in the city of Kampala and disrupt daily activities.
Bobi Wine, returning from NUP diaspora conventions in Canada and other countries like South Africa, had previously encountered a similar incident when officials in South Africa attempted to exert pressure on him. Fortunately, the matter was resolved peacefully.
Speaking about the incident in South Africa, Kyagulanyi explained that Ugandan dictator President Museveni had contacted South African Police, alleging that he and his fellow compatriots were planning to instigate chaos in South Africa. However, the misunderstanding was eventually resolved.
The planned procession and match to Entebbe International Airport by NUP supporters on October 5, 2023, was disrupted by security forces after they intercepted their president in an unmarked white vehicle.
Currently, all roads and intersections leading to Entebbe are heavily guarded by security personnel in both uniform and plain clothes. They can be seen from Kibuye roundabout, heading towards Najjanankumbi, Namasuba, and Zana.
Moreover, reports have emerged from Kamwokya, the NUP state headquarters, stating that the premises were vandalized by armed UPDF soldiers and police in uniform. Possessing armored vehicles and heavy guns. The situation remains tense and is still unfolding.
