Fufa Parted Ways With The Serbian Wolf For the Second Time (2013-2017/2021-23)

Breaking Uganda Cranes Head-Coach Milutin Micho Sacked.

The Ugandan Football Association, FUFA, has officially parted ways with Milutin Micho Sredojevic a Serbian football coach, marking the second time they’ve severed ties. The first instance was in 2017 when Fufa terminated Micho’s contract but later reinstated him in July 2021.

In a statement released on Thursday, September 14th, 2023, on FUFA’s official page, it was announced that both parties, FUFA and Mr. Milutin Sredojevic, mutually agreed to terminate their existing employment contract. FUFA acknowledged and appreciated Micho’s dedication and efforts during his tenure as the Head Coach of Uganda Cranes, stating, “It is Our Game, It is Our Country.”

Micho initially succeeded Bob William as the head coach in 2013 and held the position until 2017. Following his dismissal, interim coaches Basena and Fred Kajoba took over in 2017 until the appointment of the official head coach.

Sébastien Desabre was subsequently appointed as the head coach in 2017, achieving notable success by qualifying for the AFCON and positively impacting Ugandan football. However, conflicts between Fufa and Desabre led to his resignation in 2019, leaving a void that needed to be filled.

Jonathan McKinstry took over from Desabre in 2019 but had a short-lived tenure, being stopped from commencing his national duty. Micho was then re-appointed in 2021 on a three-year contract to coach the Uganda Cranes National Team.

Unfortunately, his return did not yield the expected positive results, and his dismissal became unavoidable, especially after failing to qualify for the AFCON this year, finishing third in the group.

The reasons for Micho’s dismissal were attributed to poor performances on the pitch, suboptimal player selections, and various other factors.

Reports also suggested that Micho had transitioned into a sports agent role instead of focusing solely on coaching, necessitating a decision on his professional position. Fufa is actively searching for a successor to fill Micho’s role.

In a separate development, the Crested Cranes experienced a positive change as FUFA announced the appointment of Abdallah Mubiru as the new assistant coach, replacing Ayub Khalifah. However, the Women’s National team is yet to have a new head coach appointed.
