Kalema Lawrence
Famously known for his hit, ‘Mukwano gwo’, Zulanda is one of the great artists that Swangz Avenue has currently. In addition to singing, he is also a songwriter who has written some of the biggest hit songs like Irene Ntale’s ‘He go down’, ‘Nkubukinze’ plus ‘Love letter’ with Bebe cool and Nwagi’s ‘Embeera’.
His real name is Julius James Baker Ssembuusi Zulanda, a christian, born and raised in a humble family of 9 siblings, 4 boys and 5 girls in Masaka town before migrating to Kawempe in Kampala.
He went to Blessed Sacrament Primary school in Kimaanya, Bright Grammar, Hope Nur & Primary for primary educati, then St Joseph’s SS Naggalama for O’level and Kisubi high school for A’level.
He later enrolled into Kampala University for a degree in Business Computing.
He started his musical journey after A- Level when he set out looking for production studios while spending sleepless nights penning lyrics. He later met up with Swangz Avenue in 2009 as a song writer where he has been writing a couple of songs for in house like Irene Ntale and Winnie Nwagi and others outside swangz like Lillian Mbabazi, Leilah Kayondo, Irene Namubiru, Jackie Chandiru, Brenda Nambi among others.
Besides music, Zulanda is into Advert voicing, farming back in the village and general entrepreneurship and he is currently single though his ideal woman would be one with good moral values and fun.
Lastly, he always get pissed off if any one Messes with his family but can relax that with listening to music, watching sports, playing Rugby, reading and sleeping. His favorite dish is Chicken and G.Nut Luwombo.
