City Oilers have clinched the 2017 National Basketball League (NBL) championship after taking a 4 – 0 lead out of the best of seven series finals against KIU Titans.
This is their fifth back to back NBL Title in five years.
The game that has given Coach Mandy Juruni and his boys the fifth championship in a row has been the fourth out of the 7 games of which the Oilers have taken advantage of all.
In summary, the first quarter ended while Oilers leading by 16 – 13, second quarter KIU Titans leading 34-30 City Oilers, third quarter ended while KIU Titans still leading by 44-41 before City Oilers coming from down to win the fourth quarter and the whole game in general.
This means that the remaining three games can’t change any results thus awarding City Oilers a title.
How the series happened
City Oilers kept a clean sheet in the final series by winning game 1 by 74 – 72, game 2 by 76-72, game 3 by 52 – 46 and game 4 by 68 – 60 despite an astonishing performance and resistance put up by the KIU Titan mostly in the first two games.
KIU Titans accepted the defeat and has rather promised a stronger resistance next season as well as appreciating the experience of appearing in their first ever final series. The next NBL Season is expected to commence in April this year.
