City Oilers Claim Game 2 Victory

NBL defending champions City Oilers are now in pole position to win their fifth title back to back after defeating KIU Titans on Sunday in Finals’ Game 2 of the Best of the Seven Series.

Mandy Juruni coached basketball club beat the KIU Titans 76-72 in a nail biting contest at Lugogo Indoor Stadium despite a good start of the Titans in the first quarter.

In a bid to knot up the series, KIU had a near-perfect start running to a 24-10 first quarter with Sudi Ulanga and Denis Balungi hitting from deep.

However, City Oilers returned for the second quarter with vigour, ready to face off whatever comes. Playing a man-to-man pressure defense, Oilers forced Titans into back-to-back turnovers. By the end of the second quarter, Oilers were already trailing with 30-26.

On return after halftime break, Oilers continued to lead away Titans in the third quarter and forth inspired by astonishing performances from Jimmy Enabu, Landry Ndikumana, James Okello who scored 18 points and picked 9 rebounds, among others to confirm a 76-72 game 2 victory.

Meanwhile, KIU Titans shooting guard Sudi Ulanga led all scorers with 24 points and picked 8 rebounds while City Oilers’ forward Landry Ndikumana scored 21 points to go with 12 rebounds.

City Oilers is steering the final series with two wins in two matches played so far of the best of seven series.
