This year’s annual Secondary Schools Football tournament, Copa Cocacola has officially kicked in Mbarara district, Wetsern Uganda at a glamorous event held at Kakyeka Stadium.
57 schools have represented different regions of the country pitted in Eight groups alphabetically numbered from A to H. According to Daniel Komunda, a trade and marketing manager for Century bottling company, the tournament unites more than one million teens in over 60 countries around the world, and aims to provide both the means and the opportunity for young teens to be optimistic about their future.
The tournament is marking 25 years in Uganda, producing National team talents like Farouk Miya, Nicholas Wadada, Allan Okello, Ibrahim Ssekkagya, Joseph Ochaya, Tony Odur and many others.
The official opening match saw hosts Mbarara High School rollover Panyango High school with a 3-0 victory.
The two weeks tournament is underway at different venues; Kakyeka, Ntare 1, Ntare 2, St Joseph grounds and others.
Jinja SS are the defending champions after stunning St. Mary’s Kitende in last year’s finals and the two ares till the favorites plus Kibuli, Masaka SS and Buddo SS.
