Crested Cranes Secure First Win in the COSAFA Women Championship

The Uganda National Women Football team, Crested Cranes has secured their first win in the COSAFA Women Championship, where they were invited as a guest team.

The girls won the match against Swaziland’s Eswatini by 4 – 3, thanks to the stunning individual performnce from youngstar Hasifah Nasuuna who was voted as the lady of the match and others. The goals that gave the girls their first win came from Hasifah Nasuuna who scored two, in the 3rd and 81st minute, Alupo Norah in the 31st minute and Nanziri Resty in the 45th minute of game play.

Having led by 3 – 0 in the first half, the Crested Cranes appeared seemingly relaxed by the return of the second half where they conceded all the three goals. Swaziland’s goals came in from, Tenanile Sandiswa in the 61st minute, Celiwe Thandizile in the 71st minute and Vebile Shongwe in the dying minutes of the game.

Uganda is in group C with Swaziland, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Their next game will be against Namibia and Zimbabwe on 15th and 17th respectively.

The COSAFA Women Championship is hosted South Africa between 12th-22nd September 2018 in Port Elizabeth. In the opening Match of the tournament, Botswana’s the Mares beat Malawi 2 – 0 by goals from Kebeloge who was also voted as the lady of the match and Radiakanyo.
