Uganda’s female football national team, the Crested Cranes is promising day in day out. After doing well in the recently concluded CECAFA Female Challenge where they finished second, they have put yet another astonishing representation in the COSAFA Women Championship in South Africa.
Uganda finished third in the COASAFA 2018 but the best news of all was the team stop stopper being recognized as the best Goal Keeper of the tournament that they entered as guest teams just like Cameroon.
Ruth Aturo, Cested Cranes first choice goal keeper was in impressive form in a number of matches, including the Semi Finals game against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana and the Third play off match against Zambia where she was the lady of the match.
According to the team’s coach, Faridah Bulega, Aturo’s award did not come as a surprise given that the player always works hard in a bid to improve her game.
“I cannot deny the fact that I was happy to see one of my own players recogised as one of the top players,” She said.
Aturo was also voted as the best goal keeper in Rwanda in july during the CECAFA championship.
South Africa Wins
South Africa claimed a thrilling 2-1 victory over Central African guest nation Cameroon in the final of the 2018 COSAFA Women’s Championship as Refiloe Jane proved the hero with both goals at the Wolfson Stadium in Nelson Mandela Bay on Saturday.
Other Awards at COSAFA
Besides Aturo, Cameroon’s Mbeleck Ngo was voted the Most Valuable player while Banyana Banyana’s Linda Motlhalo took the top scorer gong with four goals,.
