Christakis Fitidis claimed his first Uganda National Rally Championship despite finishing sixth in the Season Finale (Oryx Heart Beat Rally) in Masaka over the weekend.
The 65-year-old started the rally on a bad note with mechanical problems finishing day one in tenth position, this might have inspired him to try all what he could do in day 2, pushing him to sixth overall to seal the Championship.
What Fitidis Said after the Win:
“This has not been the best of our event… We suffered technical issues at the beginning of the rally… but this didn’t stop us from pushing to the finish.” He said amidst floods of congratulatory messages from fellow drivers, fans and well wishers.
He added on that what makes him much happier for the title is only because it shows that even the old can compete well and win titles.
Fitidis has only competed in six events this year and collected 410points; winning the title ahead of Ronald Sebuguzi with 400 points and Duncan ‘Kikankane’ Mubiru in the second runnersup with 365 points.
