Following the reportedly poor health condition of the jailed and tortured legislators, Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine, Francis Zzaake and others, demonstrations have broken out today morning allover the city as their supporters bid police to release them.
The violence broke out in Kiseka Market before spreading to other parts of the city such as Najjanankumbi Stella, Ndeeba, Kibuye, Nateete, Kamwokya, Wandegeya, Kabalagala, Kamwokya, Old Taxi Park, Makindye among others.
The demonstrators gave the normal Police ed by the Kampala Central Police Station commander Joseph Bakaleke a hard time that prompted other more experienced security forces including Military Police and the army to intervene in what was turning into a deadly riot.
These fired bullets and teargas as part of the operations to clear the roads that were blocked.
Journalists beaten up
During the same scuffle, two NTV Uganda journalists were reportedly beaten up and arrested by Security Personnel while covering the riots. These have been identified by Juma Kirya and Ronald Galiwango who are now reportedly taken to an unknown location.
Now, journalists online have started up a campaign called #JournalistIsNotACrime aimed at fighting for the rights of journalists to report freely.
