Kampala Queens and Gafford Ladies brightened their hopes of playing this season’s playoffs in FUFA Women Elite League after putting out outstanding performances in their respective matches over the weekend.
Elizabeth group
Exceptional performance from Annet Nakimbugwe helped Kampala Queens earn a 1-0 crucial win against rivals UCU Lady
Cardinals at Villa Park on Sunday.
Nakimbugwe saw the back of the net after only 8 minutes from the kickoff, a goal that helped her home side claim the 3 points.
With just a game left to play in the regular season, victory took Faridah Bulega’s charges top of the table in Elizabeth group on 25 points dislodging UCU Lady Cardinals who dropped to third on 23 points.
Kampala Queens will be at home to the relegation threatened Wakiso Hills in their final game of regular season.
Victoria group
Gafford Ladies that are waiting for the 3 editions back to back champions since the League’s inception in 2015 moved to second place on the log with 20 points, dislodging Ajax Queens after defeating Muteesa I Royal University on Sunday by 2 – 0 at Wankuluku.
However, Gafford competitors Ajax Queens will be at home to already relegated Western United that lost 1-0 at home to Rines WFC over the weekend.
The goals that gave Gafford a boast were from the Kenyan duo of Lilian Zeddy Veronica and Jackie Ogwal.
It should be noted that the top two teams from each group (Victoria and Elizabeth) qualify for the playoff stage to determine the seasons’ champion. The Playoffs are always played on a neutral ground and so the finals.
