Following the Uganda Civil Aviation ‘Notice’ restricting photography at the Entebbe International Airport, the minister of transport Gen Katumba Wamala has come out to put more light on it.
The notice that has so far gone viral on social media has received backlash and criticism from different individuals including the National Unity Platform political party leader Kyagulanyi Sentamu.

On the notice reading ‘CAPTURING VIDEOS AND TAKING PHOTOS IS PROHIBITED’, Wamala says that it is a reminder message restricting photography and filming only to operational restricted/sensitive areas within the terminal building (such as security screening areas and equipment, among other sensitive areas).
He adds on that this is not a new measure as it has always been restricted, and filming is only allowed to take place with prior permission.
“Even journalists who access the terminal building for official coverage of activities first go through a formal clearance process before they can be allowed to take photos and videos of specific areas/activities.” He tweeted.
He said that this restriction has come following some people that had unfortunately adopted a practice of filming the security screening process & equipment and adds on that they are committed to implementing measures for a better passenger experience, but airport security & the safety of all travelers will not be compromised.
However, selfies and other memorable video moments are still allowed in the departure concourse (pre-boarding and duty-free area) after the last security check or at the land side before accessing the security-restricted area.
