Gomba claims 4th Airtel Masaza Cup

Finals: Gomba 1-0 Ssingo
2nd Runners up: Buddu 4-2 Buddu

The 2017 Airtel Masaza Cup has finally come to an end with Gomba emerging as the champions after defeating Ssingo with 1 – 0 at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, to claim their fourth Airtel Masaza Cup.

The decider of the highly antipated clash was scored by Gomba’s Nicholas Kabonge in the 68th minute before His Majesty, the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II among tens of thousands of football passionate spectators.

The champions were rewarded Shs10M, a trophy and gold medals while Singo took home silver medals and Shs7M.

Gomba had previously won the 2004, 2009 and 2014 titles of this maiden tournament that has seen many stars feature in Uganda’s top flight clubs and the National Team as well.

In the third place playoff match, Buddu came back from two goals down to shock Busiro 4-2 during the early kick-off duel as Richard Kalule 6th and 35th minutes goals for Busiro were cancelled by Micdad Ssenyonga, Frank Ssebuufu, Ivan Sserubiri’s penalty and Ivan Kato’s goals for Buddu side to award their side bronze medals and a cash prize of Shs5M while Busiro pocketed Shs3M for the 4th place finish.
