JKL Leading UCU by 2 – 0 in Best of the 7 Women NBL Playoffs

After the end of the Men’s National Basketball League playoffs that saw City Oilers claim their sixth title in a row, the battle has now turned to the women category.

JKL Lady Dolphins is currently leading the best of the 7 series playoffs by 2 – 0 after getting a hard fought victory in game one over challenging UCU Lady canons by beating them 70 – 64 on Wednesday and 75-69victory in game two yesterday.

Game 1

It was a close contest from the start on game one but JKL got away with a cutting edge as they led the first quarter 17-15 before taking a 33-26 lead in the rest rooms. However, the ‘Canon-City’ fought back to level the score in third quarter 49-49 with ladies like Rosine Micomyiza, Vilma Achieng, Brenda Kayaga and Zainah Lokwameri putting up incredible shows.

It remained a close exchange in the last quarter with each side taking leads at different occasions in an end to end affair but heroics performances from Jamila ‘Zama’ Nansikombi and Rita Imanishimwe later lifted JKL to a victory by staging a late comeback.

Game 2

JKL put a firm grip on the title of the Women National Basketball League yesterday after winning 75-69 against UCU Lady Canons. The contest played at Lugogo saw both sides take control of the game at various occasions, but it was JKL that came out of tussle victorious.

Trailing 11-23 after the first interval, the Dolphins who are playing in their first top flight finals, bounced back to win the second quarter 22-12, reducing the gap to two points (33-35) going into the long break.

JKL never looked back as the side won the third and last quarters 22-16 and 20-18 respectively, to snatch the win with the help of stunning performances from Rita Imanishimwe who scored 17 points, Hope Akello ho grabbed a double double of 12 points and as many rebounds for them.

The sides will now return in action in game three on Monday and if JKL wins it, the dolphin ladies will be just a win from the title.
