Yesterday evening, Tuesday 12th June 2018, developments emerged that combined military forces searched Courtyard International Hotel in Lyantonde district on Masaka Road where Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kale Kayihura he was reported to have stayed for two days ago.
Reports continued to reveal that these combined forces included military personell from the Special Forces Command, the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence and Internal Security Organization.
According to the sources at the premises where the search was made, they cordoned off the hotel, confiscated all the staff mobile phones and other gadgets and searched the hotel while demanding to show them where Kayihura was. They didn’t find him there. This is where rumors emerged that he had escaped to the neighboring Rwanda after shortly learning about the Military forces plans towards him.
Before that, rumors where allover on Social media last week that Kale Kayihura was trying to flee out of the country over the same reasons of fear for being arrested and detained by military forces but his mission was put down by the border security.
Today morning, more reports coming in reveal that he was arrested at around 3:00 am by the Special Forces Command and currently detained at Senior Officer’s Mess in Kololo. Different anonymous sources have confirmed the rumor to be true.
However, this is yet not a not confirmed development by any security force. According to the Police Spokes Person Emilian Kayima, this is the usual Social Media rumors. He says that Kayihura hasn’t been searched for by any military force in relation to getting arrested. And so the top heads in the Special Forces Command.
This is where confusion arises from. All signs and words from big media giants in Uganda reveal that he has been arrested but Police and other related forces still tun it down. We are yet to confirm which is true and hoax.
Why Could Kale Kayihura be Arrested
According to anonymous sources, the top reason is the misuse of the IGP while he was still in Power. He was like the Shaka Zulu of the country’s security forces. It should be noted that weeks before being replaced by Ochola, he had come out publicly to defend the fierce actions of the ‘Boda Boda 2010’ supervised by Kitatta who is currently rotting from military cells.
He said that police was collaborating with the group in fighting against crimes in Uganda specifically Kampala.
It is also being said that he had an iron hand in protecting well known criminals from the face of the law.
