The search for the 2018 Miss Tourism Uganda came to an end over the weekend with a 22-year-old Kankwanzi Margaret beating other 11 contestants that represented different regions of the country to be crowned as the new Queen.
Kankwanzi Margaret, from the Kigezi region Kisoro district is student of Tourism was followed by 20 year old Ayene Emily, winner of Karamoja region from Kotido, and Lebu Laura from West Nile as the third of the night at the Serena Hotel Kampala. She contested with others including the 21 year old Miss Tourism Eastern Region Nabude Safina Shadia from Mbale district, Miss Tourism Rwenzori Masika Doreen, 22, from Kasese district among others.
She was the second runners-up of the Miss Tourism Kigezi region Beauty Pageant 2018 that was won by Faith Ainembabazi, a 21 years old student at National Teachers College Kabale (NTC).
Miss Tourism winner Margaret was awarded a piece of land in her home region which will be used for promoting Uganda tourism, a university scholarship and a trip to a destination of her choice via Ethiopian airlines. The new queen will also be representing Uganda in Malaysia in the forthcoming Miss Tourism World campaigns.
The night was flanked by a number of representatives from different Tourism sectors of the country including the Tourism Board, Uganda Wildlife Authority, Travel agents alongside the State Minister for Tourism and Antiquities, Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi who said that the pageant had grown despite the death of its founder Maria Mutagamba.
