Ugandan side debutants in the CAF Champions League Group stages, KCCA FC have beaten Egyptian Football giants Al Ahly 2 – 0 in a teeth-grinding clash at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. This is the first victory for the Kasasiro Boys in the campaign and for any country’s football club in the tournament history.
Captain Timothy Awany and Sadam Juma converted for the City council side to get them their 1st home CAF Champion’s League group stage win and the fourth in the CAF Clubs tournament group stages. Last year, Mike Mutebi and his Boys guided his side to all the three home match wins in the CAF Confederation Cup groups against FUS Rabat, Club Africain and Rivers United.
The First Half
The first Stanza of the game that kicked off at eactly 4:00pm saw the Yellow Boys being pressed hard by the Visitors, Al Ahly, with defenders such as Awany and Okot blocking off various runs from the Egyptian side. They later conceded a Walid Said’s penalty that was cancelled by the goal keeper Charles Lukwago along side other spectacular saves to end the first half 0 – 0.
The Second Half
KCCA FC came back into the last 45 minutes with yet another approach supported by Sadam Juma’s intensifying play in the midfield to mount pressure on the visitors defense line. The first Substitute for the hosts came in during the 48th minute with Jackson Nunda paving way for Bukenya that mounted more pressure to Al Ahly with Julius Poloto and Muhammed Shaban giving a hard time to the Egyptians by the 5oth minute.
Other substitions, I. Kirabira paved way for Derrick Nsibambi before Mucureezi coming in for Sadam Juma in the 8oth minute.
It was the 73rd minute of game play that saw KCCA FC Break a deadlock from the scorcher by midfield general Sadam Juma followed by a number of misses by Substitute Nsibambi and other KCCA player. With just 3 minutes to full time, it was another chance for the City Council. They were rewarded a penalty after Nsibambi was brought down in the danger zone that Timothy Awany converted into the back of the net to seal it off for the hosts. It was now 2 – 0 and just 2 minutes to Full time.
The referee ended the game while KCCA FC was leading 2 – 0 to show the Egyptian 40 times League Champions what Uganda is made of.
KCCA FC now has three points from two games following the first tournament loss in Botswana to Township Rollers by 1 – 0 a wee back.
