After Uganda’s Azam Premier League defending champions failure to qualify to the group stages of the CAF Champions league 2017, being eliminated by the Masandawana in the late minutes of the game at Lugogo stadium, still stand a chance to compete in CAF competitions.
KCCA FC has been drawn against Egyptian side Al Masry SC, the former home for KCCA and Uganda Cranes legend Jackson Mayanja, in the play-off round of the CAF Confederation Cup following a draw held in the Egyptian capital Cairo.
As the CAF rule says, Every club knocked out at the level that saw KCCA exit from CAF champions League, it is dropped to CAF Confederation Cup and has to play a preliminary match in order to qualify to group stages.
Kitende boys, Vipers SC were the original Ugandan representative at the tournament but were knocked out after losing 3 – 1 by a South African side Platinum Stars in a controversial game that was in South Africa last week.
The first leg of the game will be hosted the first leg in Kampala on April 8 at Phillip Omondi Stadium Lugogo, the home for the club, and the return leg will be played on April 14 Egypt.
