Drama hit in Migori Village in Kenya, as a funeral was forced to be called off after ‘dead man’, Wilson Oluoch, was spotted drinking in a nearby bar as mourners arrived to say farewell.
The grave for by then deceased had been already dug in his home village near Awendo in Migori county, western Kenya after coming across a decomposed male body in a sugar cane plantation that family members thought was Oluoch, three weeks after he had gone missing from his home.
While the funeral was going on, someone told the family that a man who looked like Wilson had been seen in a bar in nearby Rongo. The relatives visited the bar and found motorcycle taxi rider Wilson still there, not dead but dead drunk as he tried to drown his sorrows.
The funeral turned out to be a celebration party as family and the rest of the village rejoiced that he had been found alive.
He explained that he had felt so ashamed after returning home drunk recently that he had planned to slip away and make a new life elsewhere. The body of the man thought to have been Oluoch was been returned to the local morgue to identification.
