Photos: How it happened at Kwepena at Lugogo Legends Grounds

The weekend marked the third edition of the Kwepena Festival at Lugogo Legends Grounds. The event as usual attracted a quite impressive turn up of fans, most of them lovers, as well as resurrecting some long forgotten musicians such as dread locked veteran singer Ziggy Dee of the ‘Kwata Wakati’ hit of early 2000’s.

Revelers started making their way in as early as mid-day and within two hours, the venue was almost ¾ full.

There was a number of originally childhood game challenges such as kwepena, duulu, blaada, Sonko, draft, sacks race, Kagulu mooja, Kirindi kirindi, Round game, Kapa egoba emese, Tag of war and Kantuntunu among others.

Though during childhood, most of these games were for girls, men were also seen taking part in girlish game such as kwepena.

Kwepena is a Luganda word literally meaning ‘dodging the ball’ in the games context.

Besides these games, fans were also thrilled by music performances from singer Ziggy Dee alongside music mixes from deejays of the day, Jerry and Tony.

The event as usual was powered by Cheza, a brand that has made a name by adding value to African games in partnership with KQ Hub, Campus Bee, Legends Bar and the Kansanga based radio station, Galaxy FM.
