The Kenyan legendary musicians and lovebirds, Nameless and Wahu, today celebrate 14 years in holy marriage. The couple’s wedding took place on 10th/Sept/2005 along the shores of the striking Lake Naivasha and like any other relationship, Nameless-Wahu’s relationship has also had some hurdles to an extent that Nameless wanted to quit by the time Wahu had conceived their first daughter, Nameless disclosed on a recent interview with Kenya’s Radio Bambu.
Though best known by their stage names, Wahu and Nameless, their full names are Wahu Rosemary Kagwi for the former and David Kamoni Mathenge for the latter. Wahu graduated in mathematics at University of Nairobi, where her spouse also graduated from.
Both Wahu and Nameless have won various music awards across Africa, with Wahu being the inaugural recipient of MTV Africa Music Awards in the female category, in 2008. Wahu rose to fame in 2000 with her song ‘Niangalie’ though her mega hit came in 2005 entitled ‘sitishiki’. On the other hand, Nameless’ career inaugurated in the 1999 star-search contest on Kenya’s urban music station 98.4 Capital FM, which he walked away victorious with his original song ‘Megarider’. He later recorded a song with a Producer – Teddy Josiah which topped charts for a couple of weeks and it was indubitably the turning point in his musical career.
The couple is regarded as one of the modern music pioneers in Kenya. They are parents to two daughters, Tumiso Mathenge and Nyakio Mathenge, of which even Wahu’s biggest hit song to date ‘sweet love’ was a dedication to their first daughter, Tumiso.
