Edward Austin, a pensioner, murdered his wife over her coughing keeping him awake the whole night and later also killed him self.
Edward had spent a year caring for his disabled wife Ann after she was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) though were using different bedrooms.
He sought help from his GP for anxiety issues and sleeping problems after his wife’s loud coughing at night caused him to stay awake for hours.
On failure, he just stabbed her in the neck and hammered her on the head before driving his car into the tree on Kewstoke Road in Weston, just a mile away from his home, earlier this year where he was also declared dead at the scene despite the best efforts of medical staff who gave him CPR.
Police officers found ear defenders stuffed with cotton wool near Edward’s bedside when they searched the house.
