Soroti based Olira High School girls have been the first ever FUFA Women cup champions today June 18, 2017 after registering a victory over the Kampala – Kyebando Gafford Ladies FC in the finals that were played in Busia at Madibira Grounds to scoop a cash prize of UGX 3M.
The winner was decided upon by intensified penalty kick outs that ended 3 – 1 in favor of Olira HS after the muscle straining match ended in a one goal draw from both sides.
Evelyn Kakayi gave Gafford Ladies a 1-0 first half lead after a well converted header while in the 54th minute, Olira leveled the game through a 12 yard-shoot after Gafford Ladies’ goalkeeper Elsie Najjemba messing in the forbidden area by bringing down Olira’s right winger Fazilah Ikwaput.
The runners up Gafford Ladies received UGX 2M.
This knock-out tournament see competition from FUFA Women Elite League teams that are allowed to directly participate while the non-league teams have to first go through preliminary qualifying rounds.
