The Rugby Africa 7s is here in Kampala this weekend. An annual rugby sevens tournament that involves African nations, organised by Rugby Africa and this time, the defending champions, Rugby Cranes, are the hosts at Kyaddondo Rugby Grounds.

Come watch the muscular boys defend the trophy they claimed from the last year’s edition, in Safaricom Stadium Nairobi – Kenya. A series of matches are to be played by over 8 countries on the two days tournament.

However, Uganda national 7s coach Tolbert Onyango has branded every team that will compete in the tournament as a threat despite his side carrying defending champion status.

“We have to be better than we were last year…… Based on results from various tournaments in Africa, it is clear that other countries have made huge strides since then.”

Uganda is going to be led by team captain Eric Kasiita and assistant Philip Wokorach as the side seeks
a slot at the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens and place at the Hong Kong Sevens qualifier tournament from
which two teams will compete for a chance to gain core status in the 2018 World Rugby Sevens series.

The top two common wealth countries will also earn a place at next year’s Common Wealth Games in Australia.
