In our first edition of the Fast rising artiste, Walukaga Shafik popularly known by his stage name Fik Fameica’s biography, we had a little to say about him. Today we bring you more about the renowned copy and paste singer who has blessed the screens, radio airwaves and other media outlets with his unique blend of dance hall and Afro-pop that is a breather from your average Ugandan music well-knit in Luga-flow style.

He calls it ‘Luga flava’ though he asserts that he tries to be versatile depending on the track he is on.

“I keep changing my style all the time depending on the song I am on, If it needs me to rap faster or slower, make bends, sing a little… I do it all,” He says.

He attended Kawempe Junior School and Dungu Hill Primary School. He then went to Kawempe Royal College and Stennar Hill School for O’level before joining Kawempe Muslim and Oxford High School for A’level.

He says he was expelled many times for wearing tight trousers and some times he just left schools on his own when they did not like his style.

“Those were muslim schools. My hair too, I liked it certain way. I left Royal College, Stennar Hill and Kawempe because of that and ended up at Oxford that did not have a problem with it,”

However, Fik Fameica says that he dropped out of school after S.6 (A-Level) because of his strong reasons well known by him.

“But I don’t support anyone to dropping out of school, however, if your reasons are valid like mine…then its okay.” He adds.

Musical Break through

He made his musical debut back in 2015 with the song ‘Pistol’, a cover to a popular song by then called Festa Skunk, that quickly acquired a hit status. It’s what flipped his doors of musical success as well.

“I used to do hiphop at School for showbiz, it was not commercial and not serious. I hit the studio and playfully recorded a song… Everyone who listened to it said it was dope tune so I released the audio...”

Since videos now contribute a lot to the popularity of the song among fans, Fameica had no money to shoot a video for his ‘Pistol’ song despite fans demands for it. His angel of the day was the renowned Video director, Frank Jah who had also loved the song offered to help him shoot the video at half the fee he usually charges. That is how he rose to success.

Though he says that success caught him unaware, Fameica is one of the most sought after Ugandan musicians at the moment. He now boasts of various hit songs such as Kutama, Byenyenya, Kachima, Sitani Tonkema, Sconto, Sebo-Nyabo, My property among others.

He contributes his musical success to not only talent but also favor.

“Talent alone is not enough. There are people who are talented but take long to breakthrough… I can’t say I’m here because of talent alone, there are many talented people out there..,” He explains.

Singer Irene Ntale

His favorite Female artist is Irene Ntale and his Ideal collaborations would be with Singer Geosteady. The foreign musicians he admires are Wizkid and Migos.

Fik Fameica’s Main Goal

Fik Fameica is looking forward at winning a BET Award just like fellow musician, Edrisa Musuuza alias Eddy Kenzo.
