Swangz Avenue’s female dance hall artist/ singer Vinka is a soft spoken down to earth new kid on the block. Boasting with hit songs like ‘Malaika’, ‘Love Doctor’, ‘In the mood’ among others, she is taking the music scene by storm. Today, we bring you some of the details about Vinka regarding her personal life, education and music.
Early Life
She was born Veronica Nakiyingi Luggya and is a catholic by religion.
To her, growing up was fun considering that she went to boarding schools from nursery till she went out of high school.
“This taught me a lot on how to deal with different situations in life as a kid and teenager!” She says
She gets the name ‘VINKA’ from her real name ‘Veronica’ where she and her management chose to use K instead of C.
Education
Singer Vinka attended Hormisdallen primary school Mawanda for primary school before joining Rubaga Girls’ School for high school.
She later enrolled to Makerere University for a bachelor in Tourism Administration.
Music
One of her turning points was when she chose music for a career. She came into the industry during her S.6 vacation because she had a passion for dance and music. This was her number one inspiration to join the industry.
She was at first a dancer, then artists manager at Swangz Avenue for 3 years before becoming a singer. She managed singers like Irene Ntale, Winnie Nwagi, Zulanda, Joel Kisakye, Black skin among others.
“I knew I would sing but did not really know when… So when the opportunity came up, I had to go for it! I love music so I had to go for what I love.” Vinka narrates
She was also a dancer who worked with several artists like Jackie Chamdiru, Maurice Kirya, the late Sera( RIP) and many others.
Though many think Vinka decided to start singing just because Swangz Avenue was on pressure of replacing Irene Ntale who had left by the time, she strongly disagrees with that. She says she started music while Irene was still at Swangz, but it’s just that it was not official to the public.
She has so far released several hits like ‘Malaika’ that she describes as a slow dance hall beats jam that is taking her places. Singer Vinka’s other songs include ‘Level’, ‘Love doctor’, ‘Only love you’, ‘Stylo’ ft Irene Ntale, ‘Over dose’ ft Kent Koojo, ‘In the mood’ among others.
