The National Netball team, She Cranes are flying high in the Ongoing Netball World Cup 2019 tournament in Liverpool England. This is the third appearance of the She Cranes at the World cup, from which they have already qualified out of the group stages after winning 2 of the 3 games in group A (against Samoa and Scotland) and losing one to the hosts, England Roses.
There are a total of 12 players representing Uganda and here are a few bio details about each She Cranes player making history in the ‘Queen’s land’.
Age: 29, Position: Goal shooter Club: Sunshine Coast Lightning (Australia)
She is the reigning She Cranes captain. She was born by George Willial Agongua and Winfred Amaguru in Arua – West Nile. She has been involved in a number of sports aactivities since childhood including Athletics, basketball and handball.
Born into extreme poverty, as a child Proscovia had to walk an hour to get fresh water and survived being poisoned by a stranger on a bus.
The moment she discovered netball, her life changed. She moved to Kampala, attended school and honed her skills and she is one of the most feared shooters in the world game.
She has a diploma in Developmental studies from Nkumba University, a bachelors and masters degree in Business Administration from Uganda Christian University (UCU) – Mukono as well as another bachelors in science from Loughborough University in England where she had a successful stint at Loughborough Lighting in the Superleague before joining Lighting.
Her favorite dish is Rice and beans and she listens to gospel music, mostly by Local singer Joseph Ngoma huring her free time.

She lives in Mulago. She has played for NIC for ten years and she also featured for the She Cranes in World Cup 2015 tournament that took place in Australia. She is a daughter to Mr Sengendo John and Nankya Elizabeth in Entebbe Katabi.
Meeme is married with one child, Jeremiah Yawe Mukwawa. Though she isn’t much into Politics, Amelia Kyambadde is one of her inpirations and she hopes that one day to be granted a special meeting with her to discuss with her some matters.
She also enjoys playing basketball and going to the church.
Age: 28, Position: Goal Shooter, Club: NIC (Uganda)
She is one of the main Pivots for the She Cranes team in England, with a lot of experience having also featured in the previous World Cup Australia. Live in Kireka, born to Late Catherine Lasowa and Amos Muwanga in Fort Portal. She also likes playing Basketball and she has a dream of playing Professional netball in Europe or United States.
Her main inspiration in the game is New Zealand Wing Attack, Solonaima Maria Folau. She has a degree in Business Studies and she enjoys watching moovies. Her favorite dish is Posho and Beans.
Age: 31, Position: Wing Defence, Club: Prisons (Uganda), Nick Names: Nyongo Lito, Caps: 4 League titles and 3 Continental.
Sylvia also played for She Cranes in World Cup 2015. She works for Prison Police in Luzira. She was born in Ssabwe Hill in Nakirebe, Mpigi district to Miss Nakalanzi Cissy and late Watema Matia Kigaanira. She also plays basketball.
She is Inspired by NIC player Betty Namukasa. Her biggest turn off in the game is when the government made them travel by bus from Uganda to Malawi for the Netball Africa Cup 2013. Her favorite dish is Matooke and Chicken and she enjoys watching movies in her free time.
Age: 29, Position: Goal Attack, Club: NIC (Uganda), Nick Name: Oyam
This is Stella’s second time to feature in the Netball world cup having also played in Australia 2015. She is the secetary for National Insurance Cooperation. She was born in Layibi, Gulu district to Miss Santini Arach and Late Francis Oboya. She is a single mother of one son (Malcolm Mpoza).
Stella is inspired by Prison’s Florence Amono style of play. Her favorite dish is Irish Potatoes, Rice and Beef. She also plays basketball in JKL Dolphins in the National Basketball league. She will never forget her first world cup appearnce in Sydney, Australia in 2015 and she is looking forward to turning professional in European big netball leagues.
During her free time, she listens to Gospel singer and MP Buikwe south Judith Babirye’s music.
Age: 26, Position: Wing Attack, Club: Prisons (Uganda)
At 23, Achan was the youngest on the team that played in World Cup 2015 in Australia. Her parents are Mary Ineku and Charles Otedi from Soroti, Eastern Uganda. She works with Prisons Police and a single mother of one 7-year-old-son, Joshua Opoya.
She also plays handball. She enjoys swimming and watching movies and has a dream of playing in European Leagues. Her inspiation in the game is fellow Prisons team-mate Esther Awayo and her favorite dish is Rice, Irish and Chicken.
Age: 22, Position: Wing Defence, Club: Prisons (Uganda)
She was born in Kyotera near Masaka to Ms Angella Nakintu and Late John Bosco Kasule. She also plays basketball and handball for Prisons. She works for Prisons Police and still single.
She has a dream of playing professional netball outside Uganda and she is inspired by South Africa’s wing defence Phumza Maweni who also plays for Sunshine Lightning, Australia. She has a degree in Business from Kampala University and her favorite dish is Matooke and Chicken.
Mary Nuba Cholhok
Age: 22, Position: Goal Shooter, Club: Loughborough Lighting (England)
She is the second player on a professional career in Europe after Captain Peace Proscovia. She also played for NIC locally. She was born in Uganda to Ms Rebecca Agar and Late Nuber Maper of Rumbek village in South Sudan.
She has a certificate in business studies from Nkumba University and is currently pursuing a degree in sports science from Loughborough university.
She is a single mother of one and her inspiration in the world game is her captain on She Cranes, Peace Proscovia. She like swimming during her free time with her favorite dish being Rice and Sukuma Wiici.
Age: 22, Position: Wing Attack, Club: NIC (Uganda)
She was born in Bombo in Luweero to Ms Lilian Namusoke and Late Elizmus Ssenabulya. She is single and currently pursuing a bachelors degree in Education from Nkumba University. Her dream is palying in the English Super League.
She enjoys hanging out with friends and her favorite dish is Matooke and Rice.
Age: 21, Position: Goal Defence, Club: NIC (Uganda)
The youngest on the squad representing Uganda in World Cup 2019, England. Joan is a daughter to Mr Cosia Ssaazi Ssebakijje and Aminah Najjuma in Nateete, a surburb of Kampala and she is single. She is in her second year at Nkumba University pursuing a bachelors degree in Records and Information Management.
Joan says that Playing in the world cup has been one of her dreams in the game and she would also be grateful if she plays professional in Europe. She is inspired by the England Roses Goal Defense Geva Mentor.
She likes listnening to slow music as well as watching movies. Her favorite dish is Posho and beans.
Age: 34, Position: Goal Defence, Club: Prisons (Uganda)
She is the assistant Captain of She Cranes and a proud mother of twins ‘Nalongo’. She is also a Police officer in Prisons. Her parents are Ms Ayikoru Sarah and the late Samuel Achidri.
She says that she takes Netball as a hobby but not a source of income. She also plays handball and athleics. She will never forget the five days they spent on a bus to Malawi for African championships that they were eliminated on the Semi Finals. She urgues the government to give all sports an equal priority in terms of finance.
She enjoys watching Nigerian Movies.

When off the pitch, Mamuwaya is a female clothes and cosmetics vendor in Kitintale and this is her first time to be summoned for national duties in World Cup tournament. Her father is Muhammed Basaalirwa while her mother is the kate Hadijah Ismail.
She is still single. Her favorite dish is Posho and rice. She also enjoys playing basket ball and has a dream of playing any of the two games on professional level in Europe.
