Ugandan League Champions Qualifies on Away Goals Rule

An away goal from Uganda’s KCCA FC Serunkuuma secured a place for the club to the first round of CAF champions league while registering a second leg 2-1 loss to Angolan  Primeiro de Agosto of Angola in Luanda on Sunday afternoon.

Uganda’s premier league defending champions had a slight 1-0 advantage from the first leg home win at Phillip Omondi Stadium a week ago and were hopeful of a favorable result in the return leg to qualify for the competition’s first round stage though the hosts turned the tables by the end of 90 minutes of play.

Geoffrey Sserunkuma slotted home an assist from Muzamir Mutyaba to register a goal lead to the hosts in the 20th minute. it was a short time of happiness for KCCA as Bua’s volley changed the matters seven minutes later for the equalizer in the 30th minute to keep the host’s hopes alive.

Geraldo decided for the end of the game five minutes after with a header past Benjamin Ochan for an equalizer.

Mike Mutebi’s squad came with a strategy of pushing numbers forward in the second half in search of more goals but kept on missing chances thus the game ending 2-1 in favor of the hosts ending with average 2 -2.

The only one goal scored by KCCA made them qualify to the first round of the tournament on away goals rule as the hosts were supposed to take a lead of 2 goals to qualify. the now happy Kasasiro boys are set to face South African giants and Uganda Crane’s Mamelodi Sun downs on 10 -12th march weekend.
