Lacazette scores just 15 minutes into Arsenal career

Arsenal fans, players and head coach Arsene Wenger are all over the place after the club’s record signing, Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette scoring just 15 minutes into his career against Sydney FC in Australia to open his account with the Gunners.

Former Lyon striker came off the bench to side-foot home a low cross from fellow substitute Alex Iwobi late on in front of more than 80,000 at ANZ Stadium in a straight forward 2-0 victory over A-League champions Sydney FC as an unlikely goal source, Per Mertesacker had earlier steered an early lead for the visitors with a hooked overhead kick from a Mesut Ozil corner that the hosts failed to deal with.

He played in a position just behind Olivier Giroud where he showed some neat early touches, dropping deep to link up play and involving his new team-mates as often as possible.

Sydney’s shot stopper Andrew Redmayne pulled a stunning save to stop Danny Welbeck’s penalty kick from crossing the line.
