South Africa looked the more purposeful pushing forward, but the Nigerian defense dealt with the attacks comfortably. Nigeria later got their momentum back but appeared to be wasteful during the normal play with their experienced midfielder Asisat Oshoala scuppering the chance to seal a victory by missing a penalty.

However, it was all decided with goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi heroic save in the shoot-out, when she stooped South Africa’s Linda Motlhalo spot kick, giving them a reason to celebrate.
