Uganda to Host 2017 Africa Rugby 7s Tournament

Earlier this week, the Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) confirmed Uganda to host this year’s annual Africa Rugby sevens tournament that will be played in December from 6th to 7th.

Since Rugby is one of Uganda’s sports activity with limited coverage in media, very few Ugandans know that we are the defending champions of this tournament where Uganda Rugby sevens team defeated Namibia last year in the finals that were played at the Karasani stadium in Nairobi Kenya and so the chance to defend at home is here.

If Uganda happens to defend this title or be the runners-up where she will be facing competition from other African 12 countries, will get the chance to play in the Hong Kong 7S qualifiers, an event on the HSBC World 7s series and also featuring at the Dubai 7s and Cape Town 7s.

The nations that have already confirmed to participate include hosts and same time defending champions Uganda, the tournament record holders with 4 titles – Kenya, Namibia, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, Nigeria, Morocco, Senegal and Botswana.
