Celebrity Bio: Quiin Abenakyo, Miss Uganda & Miss World Africa 2018

It was an evening of Friday, 10th August 2018 when the names of Quiin Abenakyo were added to the history of the winners of the biggest fashion & beauty pungent in Uganda, Miss Uganda. Quiin was crowned Miss Uganda 2018/19 after beating 22 other equally beautiful contestants at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel Gardens.

That might be a good start for the story but not the most interesting part that has made Uganda and Ugandans proud across the globe in the name of beauty and fashion. It was a Saturday, 8th December 2018 when the Ugandan Beauty Queen of 2018 made story for herself and the Country as well after qualifying to the Top five continental representatives in the Miss World Contests that were held in China to be crowned Miss World Africa as well as finishing third in the final contests behind Nicolene Pichapa Limsnukan of Thailand and Vanessa Ponce De Leone of Mexico respectively.

Who is Quiin Abenakyo?

At first glance, Quinn’s striking beauty and ample figure with all features in the right places complimented by her heartwarming smile, is enough to convince you that she was indeed the fairest of all the contestants and deserving of the crown not only locally but also on an international scene.

Quiin Abenakyo hails from Mayuge district in eastern Uganda (Busoga region), and was born on 11th February 1996 in Mulago Hospital to Mr Sembera Charles and Mrs Kyamulesire Alice. She is the 2nd born in a family of three; two girls and one boy.

As it is the case in most African descent family setups, Quiin grew up in an extended family in Mulago, Kampala with grandparents, cousins, uncles and aunties all staying together.

“The home was really big and accommodated us all. I really enjoyed my childhood, it was so much fun playing with my cousins and this made us grow closer. But in P.6 we moved to Namuwongo where I stay with my parents and siblings”

She describes herself as a fun loving, God fearing, humble, positive minded and strong simple person and indeed, she is.


The queen of Miss World Africa 2018 went through Wandegeya Nursery for her lower primary studies then to Kitante Primary School for upper primary and it is from here where she sat for her Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). She later joined St. Josephs Girls Nsambya for O’Level, did her A’Level at Merryland High School in Entebbe and has been a student at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Computing awaiting graduation early next year (January 2019).

Inspiration to contest for Miss Uganda

According to Abenakyo, being called Quiin gave her a longing to become a queen in reality not just by name. Her family mostly Mrs Kyamulesire encouraged her to try modeling since she has the height and not being good at sports gave her a more push.

Just like other Inspiration stories that have a bad beginning, Quiin says that her start in modelling wasn’t easy at all. All the agencies she auditioned for made her to be an usher at events. However, When Miss Uganda presented itself, she gave it a shot since she had all the attributes needed.

“I am beautiful and intelligent and pageant is about beauty with a purpose. I was also watching previous beauty queens like Stella Nantumbwe and Sylvia Namutebi and wanted to be like them. Also, I had finished school and wanted something to keep me busy as I wait for graduation.” She revealed during an exclusive interview with a local online blogger.

On the Night when she was announced as the new country’s beauty queen, she says that a lot were going through her minds.
It was so overwhelming, very emotional, surprising and full of happiness at the same time is all what she says. Quiin adds on that she wanted to cry but girls behind her advised her to hold the tears in order not to ruin her makeup.

How her Life has Changed

According to Quiin Abenakyo, a lot has changed in her life since the Friday night of 10th August 2018. There are some things she can no longer do as herself because she is now a public figure. The crown has brought her family more closer as she has gotten to communicate with those she had taken long without seeing or talking to.

On dealing with Celebrity Pressure, Abenakyo has the Miss Uganda Foundation to thank for that that guide her in every aspect such as teaching her how to deal with all the attention and how to balance between Quiin Abenakyo, Miss Uganda and now Miss World Africa.

Final Remarks on being the queen, Quiin wants to leave behind a great legacy after her reign.

“First and foremost, I want to be remembered as a positive role model to the girl child out there. I want to be known as the girl who rose from grass to grace and created unforgettable changes in society, ” She says.

Though she has dated before, Abenakyo is currently single that she says is by her choice and enjoying it for now.

Quiin loves cooking, whistling, watching sitcoms like Big Bang Theory, Baby Daddy etc. She has never been dumped. Her smile is her best feature. Her family always comes first after God.
