Uganda held its first Tourism Awards yesterday night at Hotel Africana. The Ekkula Pearl of Africa Tourism Awards was established to award excellence of individuals and institutions for selflessly advancing Uganda’s tourism sector to better heights. The Awards join a list of other initiatives that go an extra mile to promote tourism in Uganda and to the world.
According to the Awards Official Website, Ekkula is a word derived from the Luganda language, meaning “treasure”.
Amongst the guests who embraced the ceremony was the Katikkiro of Buganda, Mr. Charles Peter Mayiga. He was Chief Guest at the awards’ ceremony and the event awarding several tourism establishments and personells. In his speech, Mr. Mayiga acknowledged the investors in the tourism sector for their continued role in creating jobs.
General Elly Tumwine, the head of the judges’ panel, also halied the private sector for investing in the tourism sector. Here is a full list of winners in different categories;
