What Yusuf Bukenya Said Following Car burning to Ashes During Fort Portal Rally

The just concluded NRC Challenge rally in Fort Portal that was won by Ronald Ssebuguzi registered a number of casualties but the most notable one was Yusuf Bukenya’s car (Mitsubish Evo IX) catching fire and burning to ashes.

However, Bukenya also known as ‘Dusty’ together with his co-driver Frank Serugo managed to survive with Serugo getting minor fire injuries on the side of the face.

His car getting burnt completely literally means that the crew’s hopes of remaining in the sport this year were put on a stand still. We managed to get Yusuf Bukenya and narrated on how the whole incident happened and the crew’s next move concerning the Sport. Here is what he said;

“I can’t tell what exactly happened. All I remember, my co-driver said the car is on fire…. and when he shouted again, that’s when I saw the fire at the back. I immediately lost control, hit a jump that put us off. We almost rolled but the car got back on the tyres and we quickly found our way out,…. I dont know how the fire started. But it was from the same point as last year. It’s so unfortunate. But thank God we are still alive.” The sorrowful Bukenya Narrated.

It should be noted that this was not the first time for Yusuf’s car to catch fire as the crew survived another scare during a Super Special Stage in Hoima last year.

He continued to reveal his next plans that also include getting back into rally very soon.

“This accident has really put me down. It will put me on halt for sometime. It has happened at a time when we were about to upgrade to a new car…. We were going to sell the Evo 9, top up and acquire a new car….. We are thinking of organizing a fundraising event, call upon anyone who can help us with anything in this campaigned we have embarked on,” Mr Dusty explained his next move.

Sorry bro.. hope to see you back soon.
